Help shape accessibility at WorkSafeBC by joining our external Accessibility Advisory Committee. As a committee member, you'll help identify, remove, and prevent barriers for people using our services. Your input will help improve accessibility for people across B.C.
Who we're looking for
We want the committee to reflect the people and communities we serve across B.C. Your lived experience is valuable expertise and we are committed to the principle of "nothing about us without us." This means people with relevant lived experience are meaningfully included.
We welcome applications from people with different experiences, identities, and roles, including:
- Workers, including those who have been injured on the job
- Employers who represent organizations of all sizes and industries
- Individuals who represent worker advocacy groups, disability-serving organizations, or WorkSafeBC service providers
- Indigenous peoples, racialized individuals, newcomers, 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and people with disabilities
- People from regions across B.C.
What you'll do
As a member, you'll:
- Identify barriers when using our services
- Advise on how to remove and prevent barriers
- Recommend updates to our Accessibility Plan
- Share feedback on how people report accessibility barriers

What you need to know
- Start date: November 2026, with the first meeting expected to take place in late November 2026.
- Term: Two years, with the possibility of renewing for one additional two-year term.
- Meetings: Four virtual meetings per year, with each meeting lasting between 1.5 to 2 hours with breaks.
- Honorarium: Committee members may qualify for an honorarium. If you're participating as a community member, you'll receive a $150 honorarium per meeting to recognize the time and effort involved in sharing your lived experience. If you're representing an employer and participating during work time, the honorarium does not apply.
- Accessibility supports: Meetings and materials are virtual and designed so that everyone can participate fully.

Frequently asked questions
What do you mean by "disability"?
The Accessible BC Act defines disability as an inability to participate fully and equally in society as a result of the interaction of an impairment and a barrier. Impairments can be physical, sensory, mental, intellectual, or cognitive, whether permanent, temporary, or episodic.
What do you mean by "accessibility"?
This is the work we do to ensure that people with disabilities can use services, programs, and products on an equal basis with others.
How will committee members be selected?
We're looking for 15 people to join our committee. Our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion team will review applications and select members based on the committee's representation goals, taking into account the perspectives and experiences outlined in the Who we're looking for section above.
What accessibility supports are in place?
We want everyone to be able to participate fully. Meetings and materials are designed to be accessible, and you can request supports at any point. Some of the supports we have in place include:
- Virtual meetings with captions and transcripts enabled
- Accessible meeting materials (the agenda and slides) shared in advance
- Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) services can be arranged with advance notice
- Multiple ways to participate (speaking, chat, or written feedback)
- Scheduled breaks built into meetings
Will I be expected to work outside of the meetings?
No. We don't expect committee members to complete work outside of scheduled meetings.
What kind of personal information do I need to provide?
When you fill out the application, you'll be asked about your interest in the committee in addition to your demographic information. When participating in meetings, you choose what you feel comfortable sharing.
How is my personal information kept private?
We take privacy seriously. If you share personal experiences during meetings, other members are expected to treat that information as confidential. All members will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement. When the committee provides feedback on plans or policies, we will summarize it without names.
What happens after I apply?
Once you submit your application, you'll receive a confirmation email at the email address you provided. We'll review all applications and notify applicants of the outcome in November 2026.
We value your lived experience and want to ensure you have an opportunity to share your perspectives and help inform accessibility improvements at WorkSafeBC, regardless of the outcome. We will host a separate accessibility feedback session for applicants who are not selected for the committee.
Can I still share accessibility feedback if I can't join?
You can submit feedback through our anonymous online form or by:
- Emailing accessibility@worksafebc.com
